Jumpstart talk seemed to go well but not much response from the attendees Bunfight went well but people did not notice the aerial. There was no opportunity to demonstrate use of the radio as DJ Soc were pumping out phat tunes at too high a volume.
- Availability for attending Jumpstart welcome events
HeliosFA, daveruss are available tommorow
Posters look good, they have a space for additional information.

SOWN 19:15-20:00
- Summer Recap
We had a summer intern to look at Eduroam. This was a joint ECS ISS project to deploy wireless access points connected to a wireless controller. Access points have been successfully been deployed across ECS providing a working Eduroam via 802.1x and an updated ECS-WLAN. Have also sorted out FreeRADIUS on Auth.
Probably worth sending out the old style access points as it does not look like the Package Management system will be ready in the next few weeks.
- Admin Tasks
- Move SOWN and trunk ports to the Access Grid room (Davetaz)
- To Do List Cleanup
Package manger for SOWN is pretty much complete. Need to proxy package list for OpenWRT tree to save having to rebuild them.
Would like to test moving between Sown and Eduroam around the Campus. Perhaps try and see if a Skype call can be kept up while moving around. Maybe look to get freshers to get more detailed statistics.
- Automatic community account creation from SOWN IPs (daveruss)
We are going to give users a 30min grace period to allow them to active their account.
- Icinga Alerts
- VPN DISK / - Syslog-ng spamming /var/log/error
Syslog-NG started getting upset about not being able to write to a socket. The number of sockets available was increased and it was restarted and this appeared to resolve the issue. The spamming by Syslog-NG was quite high and could have caused problems had it not been spotted by daveruss before he went to sleep.
- Nags Status Gadget
This is a Nagios program that will also work with Icinga. It is a Windows gadget that uses JavaScript to take data from Icinga/Nagios and format it nicely. It needs an XML script to grab. The XML is generated on the server to process the data before the widget pulls it down.
