SOWN Projects Group (SOWN-PG)

Progress on:

  • 802.1x
    • User:StuartHarland, User:Snh206 and User:TimChown took part in a webcast with JANET regarding the completion of this from their point of view.
    • Issues have arisen with some users being unable to connect to nodes, and with SSIDs 'disappearing'.
  • WiMAX
    • Meeting next Thursday regarding how to proceed, to be attended by our industrial partner.
  • Mobile IPv6
    • User:StuartHarland, User:Snh206 and User:TimChown took part in a call with the other partners and are planning some testing once the firewall issues have been resolved.
    • Sown-test has been set up and tested and is ready to be deployed as the ECS IPv6 firewall.
    • The location of the two new servers are currently unknown.
    • An amplifier has been ordered.
  • Documentation

Other Issues

  • Welcome new people (and say hello to older ones as well)
  • Planning for deployment of SOWN-Zepler
    • The node is ready to be deployed, and it is intended that both 802.11a and 802.11b will be made available from a single node.
    • We should wait until the amplifier arrives before this is deployed.
  • Certificates for Auth
    • Certificates have been obtained, we are working on a plan to deploy these.
  • Settings for home nodes
    • Changing wireless channel does not update immediately
      • its not broken, it just needs to rerun the setupnode script
    • Does traffic-shaping also not roll out immediately?
      • probably not, the setupnode script probably needs to be run
      • Perhaps using nagios so admins can restrict the amount of bandwidth per month/day to prevent overuse on cyclic billing.
      • Need to implement some direct traffic monitoring to prevent overuse.
