LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol, IEEE 802.3ad) is used to allow multiple physical links between a switch and a server to appear as a single link with the aggregated bandwidth of the physical links. SOWN uses this on Sown-vms so that the VMs it hosts can have 3Gb/s of bandwidth onto the SOWN network, ensuring that if one VM is performing a network intensive tasks the other VMs still have sufficient bandwidth.
