Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is the de-facto standard for routing between organisations. BGP does not care about the internal structure of an organisation’s network nor the routing protocol it uses. BGP allows rules to be set up such that it will only advertise certain routes, this allows an organisation like SOWN to advertise routes to its internal network and other networks it peers with but not to the global internet. The alternative to BGP is to set up static routes between networks but this is less flexible.
